Humor and imagination, along with some conversation and reflection, were the driving forces behind a recent community-based class project focused on American politics. The 12 students in the graduate course, Aesthetic Perspectives in Education, created cartoon-like collages designed to raise social awareness.
In class, the graduate students drew colorful murals to illustrate a diverse array of feelings and notions around the voting process. They then took their artwork around the Burlington area, using the cartoons as a means to engage young adults in political discussions and to encourage voter registration.
Details on the class project, which was overseen by Professor Jonathan Silverman, received media coverage in the Burlington Free Press.
Pictured below is a a sampling of the artwork.
