Clinical Psychology

One of the distinctive features of the Clinical Psychology Program is that it attempts to extend into graduate education the qualities of a small liberal arts institution. While the curriculum has a strong psychhomeapplied/practice orientation, our primary goal is to offer the student a foundation for a lifetime of learning and career development in professional psychology.

Graduates of the program typically are employed in entry level professional psychology positions in the child and adult services units of community mental health centers, not-for profit outpatient and residential services for youth and their families, college and school counseling offices, school psychology services, correctional and social service agencies, community hospital behavioral health programs, teaching in two and four year colleges, and private practices. About 15% of our over 250 graduates have been admitted to doctoral programs in clinical or professional psychology or a related discipline.

All clinical courses are taught by highly experienced practicing psychologists who bring to the classroom a diversity of clinical perspectives: primarily contemporary psychodynamic, humanistic, and social systems. However, our students are the real heart of the program; they are bright, highly motivated, and of diverse ages, backgrounds and nationalities.

What attracted me to Saint Michael's College was the
intimate setting, ideal location, and academic reputation. This program has an open-minded, cross-discipline approach to psychology. It is a relieving alternative to the strict science-practitioner model that most graduate programs offer.
