Professional Development Program

VCLA will offer at no cost to the school districts regionally-based training and professional support to current ESL teachers, content teachers, and other school personnel who work with ELLs. The training will focus on many aspects of ELL instruction, including the new standards-based assessment recently adopted by the state, as well as on ESL-content teacher collaboration to promote academic achievement for students with limited English.

The following is a sample of the areas in which VCLA can provide training:

  • Welcoming Newcomers—From “Hello” to Forming an Instructional Plan
  • Meeting the Needs of ELLs in Rural Schools
  • Legal issues in ELL Program Development
  • ELLs with Special Education Needs
  • Adapting Content Area Instruction for ELLs
  • Teaching Language through Content
  • Differentiating Instruction Based on Language Proficiency
  • The New ACCESS for ELLs—Yearly ELL Testing

If you are a Vermont educator, we invite you to discuss with us the needs within your school district, so that VCLA can match its expertise and experience to your specific goals.
