December Microsoft Updates are now Available
IT will to distribute Microsoft updates to College-owned computers, beginning Friday, December 12th at 4:00PM.
User Impact: All College-owned computers will receive the latest Microsoft updates. When updates are available for your computer, you will see a picture of a gold shield in the task bar. When you see the shield, simply click on the icon, choose the updates, and run them. When the updates are finished, you will be given the option to reboot right away or wait to reboot later. You will be given one week to complete the updates, after which we will atomatically force them.
IT Service Alert – Deletion of Mikenet Accounts
When: Tuesday, December 30th
What: IT will purge inactive Mikenet accounts and associated information. The Mikenet account and all of the associated information will be deleted:
- Email account and all messages
- Home directories and all files in those directories
- Personal web pages
- Profiles
- Records in our Helpdesk software
User Impact: Mikenet users will not be interrupted while we do this routine maintenance work. The names will be removed from the distribution lists that are maintained on the Exchange mail server; however, distribution lists that you maintain in your individual address books will not be affected. You must update those lists.
Accounts earmarked for deletion are listed in the Accounts to be DELETED public folder. Please review the list over the next few weeks and report any concerns or suspected errors to:

IT Alert – Anti-Virus 2009
What: The fake anti-virus program dubbed "Anti-Virus 2009"
User Impact: This piece of malware disguises itself as a legitimate anti-virus program and is characterized by pop-up windows detecting "threats" on your computer. The program then prompts the user to register Anti-Virus 2009 in order to remove these threats. DO NOT register this program! If you think you may have been infected by this malicious software please call the helpdesk at x2020.
Tips: Never download anything unless you are 100% sure it is what you think it is. Video/Audio codecs and Active X Controls are popular vessels for malware and should only be installed after verifying legitimacy.
