Recurring alert!  Every third Sunday of the month, Windows updates, including important security patches, become available for downloading on campus computers.  You have two options:

1. You may choose to install the current update at your convenience during the week.  This forestalls the need to restart your computer in the middle of an important task.

2.  You may wait until the end of the week.  On Friday, the Windows update will be pushed to your computer and will force a restart.

Student Email Changes
All undergraduate students are now on a different email system than faculty and staff, with graduate and international students to be switched in January 2012.  This is being done primarily to allow students to keep their College email address after graduation and beyond.

How does it impact me?
If you’re a student, your new email address is <username>@mail.smcvt.edu.  Important College-related information will be sent to that address, so we encourage you to check it often.  Students who need to send mail to class distribution lists may do so by forwarding the mail to Grace Kelley.
If you’re faculty or staff, you may need to update your student distribution lists. (eCollege distribution lists are correct, however.) The old <username>@smcvt.edu will no longer work for student mailings.  Faculty and staff may continue to use the “Class of 20..” distribution lists, as these have already been updated.

Public Folders
Due to the changeover to mail.smcvt.edu, student groups who used to use public folders in Outlook will no longer be able to access them.

How does it impact me?
If your group or club needs an email address from which to send out messages, contact the IT Helpdesk and we’ll set one up for you.  If you need a place to store shared materials, then we suggest you either use a free Dropbox “cloud” account, or contact us for help with a shared drive.

Adobe Site License
The College now has a site license for the Adobe Master Collection (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Premier, and more).

How does it impact me?
Faculty and Staff:  If you need one or more of the Adobe products on your College-owned computer in order to get your work done, contact the IT Helpdesk and we’ll get it installed for you.  At this time, we have limited support for these products, but there are online resources that will get you started.
Students:  The Campus Store has educational discounts on Adobe products; including, but not limited to the Adobe Creative Suite, Dreamweaver and Photoshop.  These programs, as well as Microsoft Office, may be purchased online through the Campus Store at   http://smcbookstore.storesecured.com/software.asp.

Approaches to Using Tegrity in the Classroom: Faculty and Student Perspectives

On November 29, 2011 George Ashline, Dave Landers and some of their students gave a presentation to faculty and staff on how classroom capture had changed their respective teaching and learning styles this past semester.  Tegrity, the campus classroom capture application, is gaining in popularity as campus members discover how it can be used to enhance classes by offering rich media content for review and supplemental learning.
