MIKENET
A Mikenet account gives campus constituents a network space for storing files, use of campus computers, access to library resources, course applications, networked printers, and wireless computing.
EMPLOYEES: New employees may need to apply for an account online at /itweb/helpdesk/forms.asp or in person at the Helpdesk in 221C Saint Edmund’s Hall. Make sure all paperwork for employment has been completed, signed, and returned to the Human Resources office before applying for an account. A Mikenet account is a prerequisite for most other types of accounts on campus.
STUDENTS: All new undergraduate students automatically receive a Mikenet account when they arrive. Graduate students who register late will need to fill out an online form.
EMPLOYEES: Faculty and staff are provided with Microsoft Outlook email accounts. Each email account comes with 1GB of email storage and is available via the Internet from https://smcmail.smcvt.edu . The email address for faculty and staff is <<username>>@smcvt.edu. The username and password for email are the same as for the Mikenet account.
STUDENTS: Student email is available on the web at http://smcvt.edu/mail . Each email account comes with 10GB of email storage and is available via the Internet or via a mobile device. The email address for students is <<username>>@mail.smcvt.ed.
GRADUATE STUDENTS: Student email for graduate students is available on the web at http://smcmail.smcvt.edu. These students will use Outlook Web Access through December 2011 and will then transition to smcvt.edu/mail. Each email account comes with 128MB of email storage and is available via the Internet or mobile device. The email address for grad students is <<username>>@smcvt.edu. The username and password for email are the same as for Mikenet.
ECOLLEGE
eCollege is the College's official course management system . Faculty members post assignments, resources, announcements, current grades, and other information for their students about each of their courses on eCollege. Students can post papers, participate in discussion groups, and share web resources, among other things.
The login ID for eCollege is the same as the Mikenet username. The initial password for eCollege is the last seven digits of the student’s Saint Michael’s ID number (no preceding 80 or letters).
KNIGHTVISION
Knight Vision is a web-based application used primarily for on-line registration for classes. In addition, there are functions for supporting the faculty and staff areas.
EMPLOYEES: Faculty use KnightVision to view information about their advisees, and to see their class rosters and information about course offerings. Staff members may access KnightVision to review budget information and personal leave plans.
STUDENTS: KnightVision provides students with real-time information about their class schedules, their grades and their standing in relation to degree requirements. Students can use KnightVision to look up schedules of class offerings and, during defined registration periods, to register for classes.
All use requires a valid KnightVision username and password, which . In order to acquire a valid username and password, a Mikenet account is required. KnightVision accounts are automatically created for all undergraduate students and matriculated graduate students. The point of entry for Knightvision is /academics/registrar/default.asp.
DATATEL
EMPLOYEES: Datatel is the software used by the college for administrative purposes. Employees who need login accounts to access Datatel must complete the Datatel Account Request Form and return it to the Information Technology Department (Box C) for processing.
When an account is created, the new user will be given access to the Datatel login process through a web interface. For help with Datatel, contact the IT Helpdesk (x2020) or email ithelp@smcvt.edu , and your request will be routed accordingly.
