JOB TITLE:               Library Student Assistant

DEPARTMENT:         Library and Information Services

REPORT FOR JOB ASSIGNMENT TO:   Tina M. Ryan - Call (802) 654-2629, or stop by Library Room 212

JOB DESCRIPTION:    Library Student Assistant provides routine support services to include:  answering phones, providing general information to the public, charging and discharging materials, searching various computer databases, stack maintenance, shelving materials, shelf reading, general office duties (filing, typing, photocopying, etc.), special projects, and related duties upon request.

Students can request to be assigned to work in any of these departments if there are openings:

Administration – provide clerical support for the Director and Executive Assistant.

Mon-Fri:  8:00am-4:30pm

Archives – assist the Archivist with cataloging and maintenance of historical materials.  Work independently in a non-public service area.

Mon-Fri:  8:00am-4:30pm

Bibliographic Services –assist the cataloging and periodicals staff in processing new books and periodicals.

Mon-Fri:  8:00am-6:00pm

Circulation – assist the circulation staff in providing front desk coverage to assist patrons and visitors to the library.

Sun:  11:00am-midnight
Mon-Thu:  7:15am-midnight
Fri:  7:15am-7:00pm
Sat:  10:00am-6:00pm

Collection Services – assist the acquisitions and collections staff with the ordering and receipt of library materials and gift books.

Mon-Fri:  8:00am-4:30pm

Interlibrary Loan – assist the ILL staff in processing requests for items to be loaned and/or borrowed.

Mon-Fri:  8:00am-4:30pm

Reference and Instruction – provide clerical assistance and support services to the reference staff.

Mon-Fri:  8:00am-4:30pm

Reserves – assist in processing class reserve materials.

Mon-Fri:  7:00am-3:30pm

SPECIAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:    All positions require some familiarity with computers and other types of office equipment, (copiers, fax machines, etc.), attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with the public.

 PAY RATE:     SE 1
