Saving for Others Furniture Association (SOFA) is a student run organization founded in the hope of creating an atmosphere of recycling at Saint Michael's College. At the end of every year SOFA, its members and anyone else who wants to be involved collects all of the furniture that would otherwise be thrown away by students or the College. The furniture is stored during the summer at a storage facility, while SOFA resells items collected each fall and donates all proceeds to a nonprofit organization. This year, $2,000 was raised for Water for Sudan.
SOFA is a new program with MOVE and originated from a Peace and Justice first year seminar course hoping to bring longevity to a service idea they had created.
