Special Events

Special Events is a program that encompasses numerous different service opportunities.  The Special Events program works with coordinating on-campus blood drives with the American Red Cross, raising funds for local benefit walks to support COTS (Committee on Temporary Shelter) and the Church World Service, participating in an annual Serve-A-Thon, running new student apple picking at the beginning of the semester, in addition to any other service opportunities that present themselves during the school year.  Volunteers can help in a wide variety of ways by participating in a fund-raising walk, donating blood, collecting cans on a food drive or participating in our apple picking project.

New Student Apple Picking
At the beginning of the semester, one of Special Events most popular programs is new student apple picking.  On one Saturday towards the beginning of the semester, new student volunteers sign up to pick apples at a local orchard, and the apples are then donated to the Chittenden County Emergency Food Shelf.  Students depart from Saint Michael's by provided transportation and can pick their own apples as well.  This is a great opportunity to meet fellow first-year students as well as provide fresh produce to those who rarely get fresh Vermont apples.
