Temporary Relief

Temporary Relief consists of weekly trips to the Salvation Army as well as Saint John's Hall, a transitional housing complex in Burlington.

At the Salvation Army in Burlington, volunteers help serve food to the patrons as well as help in the kitchen with some of the employees. After serving food, volunteers oftentimes sit down with the patrons and talk after dinner.

Saint John's Hall is a building associated with COTS (Committee on Temporary Shelter) that Saint Michael's students visit once or twice a month to cook and serve food. Saint John's Hall is an establishment for those between homes, who might not have a bed to sleep in otherwise. Before going, a menu is planned out and students go to the grocery store to buy the items needed to cook the meal, along with other household items the house might need. At Saint John's, volunteers cook, serve and eat the meal they prepared with the residents. After dinner students and residents enjoy games and conversation. Uno is a particular favorite.

Temp Relief is one kickin’ time! Many students sign up as a one time thing, but they end up having such a good time, they end up coming three or four times a year!
