Saint Michael's students Derek Souza '09, Dan Hock '09, along with alumna Brittany St. John '08 were featured in The Burlington Press about the Yellow Bike Program they are operating on the Saint Michael's campus. The threesome have put 25 bikes into rental use on campus, with special focus on getting students to bike instead of driving between the main campus on Route 15 and the Fort Ethan Allen campus, a little more than a mile up the road. Bikers can also take the Yellow Bikes into Burlington.

Students make friends with Somali youngsters

The Vermont Times Sentinel featured a story about a group of Saint Michael's students developing a family-based mentoring program at Winooski's JFK Elementary School. In the fall of 2007 a joint Saint Michael's-JFK team began International Outreach, atop some 30 years of programming
between Saint Michael's and Winooski schools. The students, led by Meredith Astles '10, discovered an additional need for a family-based mentoring program designed to connect with the parents as well as the children in New American families.

Saint Michael's service learning trip to Tanzania, Africa receives strong media coverage for the participants' continuing efforts with assisting the Ilula Orphan Center.
In the spring of 2007, Political Science Associate Professor Patricia Siplon and Journalism and Mass Communication Assistant Professor Jerry Swope accompanied 10 students to Tanzania for three weeks to write a grant proposal and create a Web site to help with funding for The Ilula Orphan Program. Ridgefield woman comes to aid of injured hiker during Ecuador trip

A story about a Saint Michael's Wilderness Program trip to Ecuador over Winter break appeared in the Danbury, Conn News Times. Senior Kate Forcheski, a wilderness adventures leader from Ridgefield, Conn., and other Saint Michael's students on the trip helped rescue a hiker who had fallen and broken her ankle. This Wilderness Program trip was led by Eben Widlund, assistant director of the Wilderness Program and Marty Molitoris, a member of the professional climbing staff. Widlund and Molitoris are both Wilderness EMT's, Wilderness Medical Educators and AMGA certified instructors. Their combined expertise in conjunction with the personal power supplied by the student climbing team expedited the injured hiker's care.
