Confidentiality

In most circumstances, information that you discuss with your personal counselor at The Bergeron Wellness Center is CONFIDENTIAL and PRIVATE.
However there are some circumstances when the counseling staff CANNOT keep information confidential. These circumstances are outlined below.

WE cannot guarantee confidentiality if:

  • If we believe you might be of harm to yourself or may cause harm to others.
  • If your records are subpoenaed by a Court of Law/Court Order.
  • If you provide us with information regarding situations of potential child or elder abuse. The law views us as "Mandated Reporters" in such cases, requiring that we make official report of such potential abuse within 24 hours.
  • If you report a situation concerning another person who might be harmful to himself/herself or to others.

With your permission, we may consult with other care providers on or off campus on your behalf.

If you would like information about the State of Vermont's laws and resources covering mental health services, please let one of the personal counselors know.

Our goal is to meet your counseling needs. If we are unable to do so, we will help refer you to an off-campus therapist, psychiatrist, or other health care provider.
