Careers and Internships

Plan for Your Career

By spring of their senior year, 73% of Saint Michael's students participated in some form of practicum, internship, field experience, co-op, or clinical assignment (compared with 49% at all NSSE Schools).

At Saint Michael's, the Career Development team sees their job as helping our students put their dream jobs in realistic reach. Starting early using our 4-year plan as a guide is the key to finding the right career path for each student.

In our office, we have veteran advisers with strong connections to local and national businesses who dedicate their time to individualized career preparation, including the internship program. They are well-positioned to set you up for practical experiences that will hold your interest, teach you useful skills and distinguish your resume. We'll work with students to help find skills-specific internships for those who seek them.

Local site supervisors rave about our students, calling them "fabulous" interns with terrific work ethics who are great team players.

Our graduates tell us that their on-the-job internship skills combined with the adaptability, advanced thinking skills and ability to communicate well that come from studying at Saint Michael's leads to increased confidence and good results in job searches.

Academic Internships: You'll work 130 hours on a job site, paired with frequent meetings and oversight by a specific faculty member, and you'll keep an internship journal.

Stop by our office early in your student career to help us do all we can for you.

Alumni Services: The Office of Career Development works with alumni at all stages of career planning and job search, including connections to the Career Advisory Network of alumni and parent volunteers who act as mentors and networking contacts for job leads.

Beyond internships, the Career Development staff provides a full range of programs and services to help students plan for the future, including SMCJoblink and Career Quicktips, helping students and alumni acquire the knowledge and skills essential for effective and ongoing career and life planning.
