Orientation Schedule

Fall 2017 Orientation will begin with Move-In on Thursday, August 24th and will conclude on Sunday, August 27th.

Activities are being planned for new students during each of the four days and evenings. Families will be invited to attend several activities on Thursday and Friday, concluding around 12:00 p.m. on Friday. For planning purposes, families typically depart campus by noon on Friday, August 25th.  Classes will begin on Monday, August 28th.  

On Thursday, August 24th, each new student will receive a much more detailed copy of the Orientation schedule which will include additional detail as well as locations and times.  An abridged version is listed here.

Transfer Students:  All transfer students are welcome to attend all Orientation offerings.  However, there will be some sessions specifically designated for Transfer Students throughout the weekend.  Saturday will feature some additional programs that are only open to transfer students. More detail can be found on the Orientation schedule that students will receive on August 24th.

Thursday, August 24: Tradition & Mission  

  9:00am – 3:00pm: Check In. Ross Sports Center   

    Pick up your packet and other essential items, such as your Room Keys and your SMC KnightCard (ID)
    To help keep congestion to a minimum and the move-in process running smoothly, we invite students  
    with a last name beginning with A - K to arrive between 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and those with a last 
    name beginning with L - Z to arrive between 12:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.  Move into your residence hall with 
    the help of Orientation Leaders and Resident Assistants.

   Afternoon Activities:

   Complimentary Lunch for All.

   Academic Enrichment Center Meet and Greet. 

   Photo of Alumni and Their New Students. 

   3:00pm: Students Only: Residence Life Community Meetings.

   4:30pm: Celebration of the Liturgy.  Chapel of Saint Michael the Archangel

   5:30pm: Students Only: BBQ with Orientation Groups followed by Class Photo.

             Families Only:Reception Hosted by the Society of Saint Edmund. Dion Family Student Center

   7:00pm: New Student Convocation. Chapel of Saint Michael the Archangel

   The Convocation is open to all members of the Saint Michael’s community, families, and friends.  The

   ceremony welcomes our newest members into the academic community of Saint Michael’s



Immediately following convocation, families will be given some time to say goodnight. Students will then go to the next activity planned for them. 


Friday, August 25: Community, Ownership, & Responsibility

   8:00am – 9:30am: Students Only: Gathering Breakfast for All New Students. 

   9:45am – 11:00amStudents Only: Academic Advisor Meetings. *REQUIRED

                                   Families Only: Enjoy a Cup of Coffee. Archway Lounge, Dion Family Student Center

   11:30am: All Community Prayer Service. Campus Green


Families are Encouraged to Depart Following the Prayer Service.


   12:30pm: SMC Connects.  Campus Green. 

   Evening Activities:

Saturday, August 26: Academic Excellence and Global Citizenship 

   8:00am – 9:30am: Students Only: Gathering Breakfast for All New Students. 

   9:45am – 12:00pm: First Year Seminar and Technology Presentations for All New Students.

   10:45am - 12:00pm: Transfer Student Welcome.

   12:00pm – 1:30pm: Lunch.  Green Mountain Dining Room, Alliot Student Center

   1:45pm – 4pm: Diversity and Inclusion.

   Evening Activities: 

   Dinner with Orientation Group

   Ice Cream Social with Public Safety

   Floor Meeting

   Orientation Activity for Students


Sunday, August 27: Caring with Intention for Self and Others

   7:30am - 9:00am: Students Only: Gathering Breakfast for All New Students. 

   9:00am – 12:00pm: Connections.  Ross Sports Center

   12:00pm – 1:00pm: Lunch.  Green Mountain Dining Room, Alliot Student Center

   Afternoon Activities: 

   Library Orientation.  Durick Library

   New Student Athlete Orientation.  McCarthy Arts Center, Recital Hall

   7:00pm: Opening Liturgy. Chapel of Saint Michael the Archangel
