Ski and Ride at Smuggs

Expanding our campus by three mountains
Beginning in fall of 2004, Saint Michael's undergraduate students became the first in the nation to have unlimited access to a major winter resort as part of their college experience.  Our agreement is with Smugglers’ Notch Resort in Jeffersonville, Vermont, only 45 minutes from campus.

Why are we giving our students a season pass?
As a residential college, we believe in educating the whole student: mind, body and spirit.  This program is our way to encourage students to explore Vermont's natural beauty and sports they can enjoy for a lifetime.

A few notes on Smugglers' Notch
"Smuggs" boasts three mountains, the highest vertical drop in Northern Vermont (2,610 feet) and 78 trails suitable for all levels of skier and rider from novice to expert.  Smuggs also features the only triple black diamond in the East, The Black Hole.  In recognition of the relationship between Saint Michael's and the resort, Smugglers’ has named a new gladed trail on Madonna Mountain “Knights’ Revenge,” referencing Saint Michael’s mascot the Purple Knights.

How the programs works
Saint Michael's will provide all undergraduate students in good academic standing with a season pass to Smugglers' Notch for just a minimal processing fee.

What if I don't know how to ski?
Never fear!  Smugglers' Notch has an award-winning ski and snowboard school and fully stocked rental shop with state-of-the-sport equipment.  The Saint Michael's student pass comes with discounts on group lessons and rental equipment.  In addition, the Saint Michael's Wilderness Program offers telemark and backcountry ski clinics throughout the winter.

How will students get to Smugglers'?
Students will have access to weekend bus transportation from campus to Smuggs through the winter months.
