A rich residential campus life is part of Saint Michael’s identity and mission. Our students learn and grow outside class across a broad field of activities and opportunities.
Our Wilderness Program offers students weekend excursions to get outside and enjoy Vermont’s spectacular natural beauty. Programs include hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, skiing/snowboarding, orienteering and camping.
Music and theater abound on campus. Some examples are our campus radio station WWPV where students are the DJs, student musical and play productions, the Saint Michael’s Chorale, Open Mike nights and the Wind and Jazz Ensembles. Christmas and spring semi-formal dances are popular events. Big-name bands such as “Train” have performed on campus in recent years.
Students engage in an exchange of ideas with campus speakers, in student forums and workshops, and as part of social, political and environmental action groups. Anybody in the Saint Michael’s community can write articles, features, essays or letters for The Defender (weekly newspaper) or The Echo (online magazine).
Our active campus ministry and volunteer programs send students to work in communities across the United States and the world during school breaks, or to help out in the Burlington community during the school year. Many participate in popular student Sunday Masses as liturgists or musicians. Saint Michael’s student-run Fire and Rescue Service has protected the community for over 20 years.
Varsity, club and intramural sports let students play or watch sports from basketball to indoor soccer. Beautiful trails surround our campus for cross-country running or mountain-biking. Athletics facilities include a fitness room, racquetball and an indoor track and swimming pool.
