What to Bring

Saint Michael’s College is committed to environmental conservation and embracing a green environment.  We request that all students, staff, and faculty do their part to reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible. You are strongly encouraged to bring reusable items, and please recycle what you can’t use. 

**We encourage our students to communicate with their roommates and reduce the duplication of certain items such as refrigerator or microwave to one per room.

Here are some suggested items to bring:
(Remember, your roommate may already have some of these...)

  • Telephone *(voicemail provided)
  • Calling card for long distance calls 
  • Hand tools (hammer, tumb tacks, screwdriver) / Needle/Thread
  • Plants or dried flowers
  • Calendar/Posters/Collages /Tapestries  
  • Fan
  • Desk Lamp/energy efficient compact florescent light bulbs (CFL) 
  • First Aid supplies
  • Memo Board / Cork board 
  • TV/DVD player/Stereo/Microwave (**)
  • Small Refrigerator *4.0 cubic feet or smaller(**)
  • Small couch/futon / Bean bag chair
  • Small table (wood, plastic, TV Stand, crates)
  • Laundry Bag/basket 
  • Detergent  (environmentally friendly encouraged)
  • Addresses/Phone #’s/postage stamps
  • Drying rack /Hangers 
  • MP3 player/Ipod 
  • Alarm Clock
  • Iron/Ironing board 
  • Extension Cords/surge protector
  • Mirror
  • Sheets/egg crate/mattress pad *STANDARD TWIN*
  • Dishes/Utensils/can opener / environmentally friendly dish soap
  • Comforter / Bedspread /sheets /blankets /pillows

  • Curtains (venetian blinds provided)

The following items are not allowed in residence halls and living areas:

  • Halogen lamps
  • Candles
  • Cinder blocks
  • Incense
  • Exterior holiday lights
  • Glass bottles
  • Hot Tubs
  • Waterbeds
  • Kerosene or electrical space heaters
  • Air conditioners
  • animals/pets (i.e. fish, snakes, lizards, etc.) 

For reasons of safety and sanitation, no cooking appliances other than low voltage microwave ovens are permitted in residence hall rooms.

Refrigerators are never permitted in residence hallways or corridors.

Residents are permitted to personalize their room with the exception of painting or permanent decorations.
