G*R*E*A*T Housing at Saint Michael’s College!
Students living in G*R*E*A*T Housing are members of the First Year, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes - approximately 300 students - who wish to live in alcohol-free environments governed by an honor system. Technically, all housing on campus (with the exception of the townhouses housing 21 year old residents) are designated alcohol and other drug free, in accordance with policy and Vermont State Law. However, students choosing to live in G*R*E*A*T Housing are agreeing to live a lifestyle that does not allow alcohol and/or other drugs to negatively affect the community of which they are a valuable member. As such students will recognize and affirm in their daily actions that choice by signing a contract with their community and the college to uphold the ideals of G*R*E*A*T housing.
The purpose of such a program is to provide students with a comfortable, safe, living environment free from the pressures associated with alcohol. The communities which form tend to be tighter as there is a common bond. Opportunities to meet new friends are furthered through such weekend activities as Movie Nights, dinners, dances, and more. In addition, students may wish to become involved with the campus BACCHUS chapter which meets regularly to discuss issues surrounding alcohol and other drugs on campus as well as to implement campus/hall social and educational programs.
