Returning from your Study Abroad Experience

Your study abroad experience is not an isolated activity that has a definite beginning and end.  Instead, studying abroad is a life-changing event, both personal and academic, that continues to develop and evolve long after you have returned home. You will find yourself changed, but perhaps not in the same ways as your own culture and friends. Your academic and personal goals may be different and you may now relate more to our own international students on campus than you had before.

To help you ease back into your new life at Saint Michael's and Vermont, we have a variety of events and opportunities for you to enjoy:

Returnee Reception and Dinner

Attend this event and discuss your experiences with other returning students while enjoying dinner and a slideshow of photographs from abroad.

Study Abroad Career Workshop

Learn how to market your experiences on your resume and in interviews for a job or graduate school.

Volunteer

Share your experiences with others.  Volunteer your time to participate and educate prospective students about study abroad at events such as:

  • Study Abroad Fair
  • Presentations/Student Panels
  • Information Tables

Seek out international students on campus and continue to speak your new language or just talk with them and remember how it feels to be in a different country than your own.

Help to create new and exciting returnee events.

Re-Entry Reflection and Support

Create a group of returnees to give you more opportunities to talk about your experiences abroad and to learn from these experiences. Incorporate the best of your study abroad into your life here at St. Michael's.

Graduation Sashes

Order one of these beautiful silk sashes designed in the flag colors of the country in which you studied abroad.  These sashes, available for purchase, are for you to wear over your graduation robe, giving you recognition for your study abroad experience while at Saint Michael's College.
