Catherine Welch ’10, the College’s associate dean of student success, was interviewed for a significant story in the Burlington Free Press daily newspaper and website that appeared in the August 19 edition. The piece by staff reporter April Barton had the title “Why is Vermont doing so well graduating high schoolers but not college students?”

Denise Brault, executive assistant to the VPAA and the dean of the faculty this past fall joined the Executive Board for Vermont Women in Higher Education (VWHE). She began in September 2022 and will serve as the group’s treasurer; also joining the board was Sydney Rybicki ’18, assistant director for alumni & family engagement in Institutional Advancement, who began in December 2022. Additionally, two other Saint Michael’s employees have active commitment to the VWHE Executive Board as Strategic Planning Partners: Vernita Weller, student success adviser in the Purposeful Learning Office, and Catherine Welch ’10, assistant dean of students/Title IX coordinator in Student Life.

Catherine Welch ’10, a veteran member of the Saint Michael’s Student Life Office in roles of increasing responsibility (most recently Assistant Dean of Students/Coordinator of Title IX and Student Life Outreach), has accepted the position of Associate Dean of Student Success/Title IX Coordinator. Catherine will partner with the Director of Purposeful Learning, with an eye toward data analytics, assessment and continuous review of the Purposeful Learning program. She has begun collecting benchmark data for specific programs relating to Purposeful Learning. Catherine will also be using institutional data to determine trends and opportunities for retention, recruiting and support of students. She will partner with campus stakeholders to develop programs that integrate key skills across the undergraduate experience.
