Orientation Schedule

Fall 2019 Orientation will begin with Move-In on Friday, August 23rd  and will conclude on Sunday, August 25th.

Activities are being planned for new students during each of the three days and evenings. Families will be invited to attend several activities on Friday and Saturday.

For planning purposes, families typically depart campus between 11am and 12:15pm on Saturday, August 24th.  Classes will begin on Monday, August 26th.  

On Friday, August 23rd, each new student will receive a much more detailed copy of the Orientation schedule which will include additional detail as well as locations and times. However, a sketch of the Orientation schedule is provided below. 

Transfer Students: All transfer students are welcome to attend all Orientation offerings.  However, there will be some sessions specifically designated for Transfer Students on Saturday, August 24th. More detail can be found on the Orientation schedule that students will receive on August 23rd. 

International Students: International Student Orientation begins Monday, August 19th. It is designed to help you get acclimated to campus, provide you with important information about immigration, campus services, and student life, and give you an opportunity to meet other new international students. Friday, August 23:

9:00am – 2:00pm: Check In. Ross Sports Center   

At Ross, you’ll receive a checklist of required steps to complete, keys, and IDs. (Please remember that all students should set up a Web Card account via the New Student Portal to upload a picture to be used for your SMC ID, or Knight Card, so that it is ready when you arrive to campus.) To help keep congestion to a minimum and the move-in process running smoothly, we invite students with a last name beginning with A - K to arrive between 9:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m. and those with a last name beginning with L - Z to arrive between 11:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m.  After checking in at Ross Sports Center, move into your residence hall with the help of Orientation Leaders and Resident Assistants.


 Afternoon Activities:

   Complimentary Lunch for All.

   1:00pm: Academic Enrichment Center Meet and Greet.

   2:30pm: Photo of Alumni and Their New Students. 

   2:45pm: Students Only: Residence Life Community Meetings.

   4:15pm: Celebration of the Liturgy.  Chapel of Saint Michael the Archangel

   5:30pm: Students Only: BBQ with Orientation Groups followed by Class Photo.

                  Families Only: Reception Hosted by the Society of Saint Edmund. Dion Family Student


   7:00pm: New Student Convocation. Chapel of Saint Michael the Archangel

   The Convocation is open to all members of the Saint Michael’s community, families, and friends.  The

   ceremony welcomes our newest members into the academic community of Saint Michael’s


Immediately following convocation, families will be given some time to say goodnight. Students will then go to the next activity planned for them. 



Saturday, August 24:

   8:00am: Students Only: Gathering Breakfast for All New Students. 

   9:45amStudents Only: Academic Advisor Meetings. *REQUIRED

                  Families Only: Enjoy a Cup of Coffee. 1st Floor, Dion Family Student Center



Families are Encouraged to Depart Anytime Between 11am – 12:15pm


    12:15pm: First Year Seminar Presentation and Tools for Success Presentation.

    1:30pm: Transfer Student Welcome.

    2:30pm: College Scavenger Hunt

   Orientation Activity for Students


Sunday, August 25:

   8:00am: Students Only: Gathering Breakfast for All New Students. 

   9:00am: Connections.  Ross Sports Center

   12:00pm: Lunch.  Green Mountain Dining Room, Alliot Student Center

   Afternoon Activities: 

   New Student Athlete Orientation.  McCarthy Arts Center, Recital Hall

Evening Activities: 


   7:00pm: Opening Liturgy
