DESCRIPTION:On the Margins of Europe: War Before the War (Photography Exhibit) \nWednesday\, Oct. 30\, through Thursday\, November 14\nRoy Room\, Dion Family Student Center \nDmitri Beliakov\, is a freelance photojournalist originally from Moscow\, Russia. For five years\, from 2014-2019 he covered events in the east of Ukraine where he explored the fanaticism that is driving the largest war in Europe in a generation; the transformative effects of the conflict on both the pro-Ukrainian government fighters and Moscow-backed armed separatists; and the tragedy of the most vulnerable: the elderly\, the ill and the poor of the region. Over 50 of his moving photographs will be on display.

The presentation\, delivered in fireside chat format\, is entitled “Innovative Solutions to Persistent Global Issues\,” and will take place on Monday\, November 18th at 5 p.m. in the Roy Room. Margrethe Froland ’25\, a double major in Economics and International Relations and an international student from Norway\, will engage in an informal question and answer with Amy followed by discussion with the audience.

Judge Rasooli’s nieces Manizha and Waslat Rasoli\, first-year students here at Saint Michael’s College\, will be accompanying her in this presentation.
