A Pathway to Any Major

Students needing to improve their English may apply for conditional admittance and enter Saint Michael’s Pathway Program. Many will complete their degree in 4-years—which is the same amount of time it takes for native English speakers to complete their undergraduate degree.

Complete your degree in four years!

Conditional Admission to the Undergraduate Program

Pathway students take English as well as academic content courses  from Day 1. Depending the student’s language level, they will spend one or two semesters in the Pathway Program. Credits earned in the Pathway Program count towards the undergraduate degree. Students who have spent two semesters in the pathway program  may transfer to the undergraduate program as second-year students, or sophomores.

There are two degrees offered at Saint Michael’s College, depending on the major:

  1. The BA (Bachelor of Arts)
  2. The BS (Bachelor of Science).

The Process

Pathway students must first complete their English proficiency requirements to qualify and enroll in the Academic English Program  (AEP), which is the Pathway Program’s main component. The AEP is a two-semester undergraduate program that supports students’ needs for academic skills and English language improvement through content-based instruction focusing on undergraduate courses.

Low Test Scores?

No problem. Students with a low TOEFL/IELTS score may still apply for and receive conditional admission (and admission to the Pathway Program).  Those who score below 61/5.5 (or the equivalent on another exam) will be enrolled in the Intensive English Program (IEP) and transfer into the Academic English Program  as their English improves.

Scholarships

Pathway students who matriculate into the undergraduate program are eligible to receive scholarships of $15,000 or more, which are renewed each year that the student remains in good academic standing.

Campus Life

Students experience Saint Michael’s College as full-fledged universitResidence Hall 4y students with access to all university facilities, including the library, technology, and fitness areas. They are welcomed in all university clubs and activities that are available to undergraduate students, and are housed on campus among international and US-American students.

Accommodations are typically in one of St. Mike’s premium residences—Cashman Hall—which houses our “GEAR” Program (Global Experience Academic Residential). GEAR is home to US-American and international students, living in single rooms within suites of 4 or 8 students. US-American students must apply for the privilege of living in GEAR and demonstrate they are committed to connecting with international students. In most years about twice as many US American students apply for GEAR as are accepted.
