Institutions receiving funds under Section 18004 of the CARES Act are required to submit a report to the Secretary of Education describing the use of funds distributed from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). This page provides public information about Saint Michael’s College’s participation in the CARES Act and use of the college’s HEERF Institutional Portion. This information will be updated no later than 10 days after the end of each calendar quarter.

Saint Michael’s College signed and returned the Certification and Agreement for the Institutional Portion of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund under the CARES Act to the Department of Education under Grant Award Notification P425F200482.  Funding was awarded on May 6, 2020.

  1. Saint Michael’s College was allocated a total of $1,186,800 under Section 18004(a)(1). Pursuant to the Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students, at least $593,400 will be distributed directly to eligible students impacted by campus disruptions due to the coronavirus. The Certification and Agreement for the Institutional Portion states that the remaining $593,400 may be used to cover institutional costs associated with the COVID pandemic.

Institutional funding award is utilized to recover costs associated with refunded residential fees to all students that left campus in March 2020.  These expenses were processed in June 2020 as the institutional expense related to drawing institutional funds from G5.

We will report this expenditure on the FY20 SEFA schedule. The funds will be drawn from the G5 account in FY21.
