Residential Programs

As a 100-percent residential college, we make living on campus just as important a learning experience as the curriculum in the classrooms. We connect with students through:

  • Bulletin boards and newsletters
  • Educational Events: We use student input as well as a wellness wheel model to develop program themes which may impact students during their years in college, including Nutrition and Healthy Eating, Behavioral Health, Alcohol and/or Other Drugs, Diversity, and Career Development.
  • Weekend Programming: Weekend Programming allows students on a floor/area to get to know each other on a more personal level, while providing them with fun, alcohol-free activities on Friday and Saturday evenings. Activities include such events as floor dinners, barbecues, cupcake decorating, macaroni & cheese bar, movie nights, etc.
  • Late Knight Grilling in the Quad: Come out for a burger or a hot dog on a weekend night.

Saint Michael's College Student Affairs believes every student COUNTs

We are deeply committed to enhancing the co-curricular & academic experiences of every student to help them reach their full potential.  We foster an inclusive and seamless learning environment that enhances engagement, awareness, and personal development.  We believe in the inherent value and potential of each student, and use best practices and innovations to support their individuality.

For us, YOU COUNT!

Community

Be empowered to form meaningful relationships, and create a community based on respect, understanding, honesty, and inclusivity.

Ownership

Take responsibility for your actions, experiences, and learning both in and out of the classroom.  Understand what it means to be a good citizen and community member, and the impact you have on community and those living alongside you.

Unity in Diversity

Actively engage in increasing your global and cultural awareness, and creating a culturally inclusive living environment that seeks to foster an understanding and appreciation of human difference.

Notice Each Other

Learn to notice and respond to the emotional, physical, and spiritual well being of each member of our community, as we are all interconnected.

Take Care of Self

Prioritize taking care of yourself, and seek to develop appropriate skills and habits of self-care.

Residence Hall Association

The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is a group of students who represent each hall and residential area on campus. They are responsible for providing social and educational programming in the residence halls and townhouse/apartment areas to supplement programs that are offered by the residence life staff.

The RHA also provides advocacy for residents as its members strive to achieve the goal of helping to make the residence halls at Saint Michael's wonderful places to live, learn, and grow.

The RHA is part of a regional and national organization of RHAs at other colleges and universities. Students are in constant communication with colleagues at other member schools and attend conferences twice a year to share ideas, network, and attend programming sessions with the hope of bringing ideas back to campus.

Check out the links to those organizations below:

  • NEACURH (Northeast Affiliate of College & University Residence Halls)
  • NACURH (National Association of College & University Residence Halls)

Late Knight Grilling in the Quad

No matter what you're busy with on the weekends, almost all students take a break to visit the grills that get going on the Quad every Friday and Saturday night from 11 PM to 12midnight. Feast on burgers, hot dogs, and chicken patties and see your friends and classmates. It’s one of St. Mike's most popular traditions, sponsored by Student Life.

Friday Knight Dry

Friday Knight Dry is a collaborative program jointly sponsored by Residence Life, Student Activities, and Student Government Association and occurs once each semester. It's an evening of games, contests, activities and entertainment that occurs in the residence halls and across campus that underscores alcohol-free fun. Popular events include Bingo games, "Twister" tournaments, dance parties, and trivia contests.

Students earn raffle tickets for prizes including gift certificates to local restaurants, SMC apparel, iPods, digital cameras and room accessories.
