SUMMARY:Education Department Common Read Book Launch
DESCRIPTION:Education Department Common Read Book Launch \nWednesday\, Sept. 18\, at 4 p.m.\nMural lawn\, Alliot Student Center \nEach year\, the Education Department’s Common Read Committee identifies a book of importance to share with all of our students in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. This is one way we embrace and share our departmental mission statement with the College community and beyond. This year’s Education Department Common Read selection is Mascot (2023) by Charles Waters and Traci Sorell. We are so thrilled to be hosting this Common Read Book Launch event at the campus mural\, The Power and Joy in Access in All Stories\, to anchor our annual Common Read with an official kickoff this Fall! We will be reading and discussing Traci Sorell’s We Are Still Here\, Native American Truths Everyone Should Know (2021) in groups through a Storywalk at the mural site. Through this event\, we will deepen their understanding of indigenous perspectives\, and use this as a lens through which to view Mascot. Further\, the mural and our annual Common Read support the College’s Strategic Plan statement\, “It is essential to our mission that we build stronger and more inclusive communities\, with an emphasis on fostering a culture that welcomes and validates every member of our community.”
