Bill Frain ’86

Presented by Fr. Brian Cummings, SSE ’86

Good evening everyone, I am Fr. Brian Cummings, Class of ’86 and Director of Edmundite Campus Ministry, and I am here to read the citation for my friend and classmate Bill Frain, one of our esteemed Alumni of the Year.

As a student, Bill was a Business major and played on the hockey team. As a student he met his future wife, Lori, from the Class of 1988, and they married shortly after she graduated and moved to her hometown of Clifton Park, NY, where they still reside today.

Bill co-chaired his 30th reunion in 2016, encouraging his classmates to support the College with a gift and attend Reunion Weekend. He has also served on previous reunion committees. He’s among the first cohort of volunteers for our new Alum-Knights program created to assist the Admission Office with recruiting prospective students by attending college fairs, visiting high schools and making personal connections with potential students. His recruitment assistance goes back many years, though, as he has been a longstanding and reliable volunteer for Admissions.  In the late 90s, Bill assisted Institutional Advancement’s fundraising efforts through the Alumni Phonathon Program, calling other Purple Knights to foster stronger alumni connections and encourage philanthropic support.

He is an Area Executive Vice President at Arthur J. Gallagher and Company, an international insurance brokerage and risk management services firm.

Bill is part of a proud SMC legacy with his sister, Tammy, Class of ’91, his father-in-law James O’Brien, Class of 1965, and daughter, Katherine, a 2020 graduate. Bill and Lori also have two sons: Andrew and John.

On behalf of the Saint Michael’s College Alumni Association it’s my pleasure to name my friend Bill Frain a 2021 Alumnus of the Year.
