Christine (Amoresano) Gallager ’11
Presented by Drew Millikin ’01
Good evening. I’m Drew Millikin, Class of 2001, former St. Mike’s admission counselor and former assistant coach for the swimming and diving team, and it is my privilege to read the citation for our next awardee. As St. Mike’s go-to volunteer in Denver, Colorado, Christine Gallager ’11 is an excellent choice to be one of our 2021 Alumni of the Year.
I met Christine when I coached her on the swimming and diving team during her first-year at St. Mike’s. It’s also where she met her now husband, Erick, Class of 2010. She was a four-year member of the team and served as one of the Women’s team captains as a senior. She was a Founder’s Society tour guide and blogger, and managed the College’s bloggers and prospective student social media her senior year. She was a Pre-Orientation Weekend leader for two summers and an Orientation leader for one. She also participated in MOVE activities, including an extended service trip, and attended and supported LEAP retreats.
After graduating from St. Mike’s, Christine served two years with AmeriCorps NCCC as both a Corps Member and Team Leader. During that time she worked for eight nonprofits in five states. She and Erick both serve as Crew Leaders with Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, a local environmental stewardship agency. They lead teams of volunteers on weekend projects doing trail construction and ecological restoration. She is also the Event Director for Cupid’s Undie Run Denver. It is the largest pants-less charity run in Colorado (and one of the biggest in America!) that raises funds to cure a genetic disorder called Neurofibromatosis.
Since graduating, Christine has served St. Mike’s in multiple volunteer roles: as a class agent, asking her classmates to support St. Mike’s with a philanthropic gift, hosted multiple Purple and Gold Day events for fellow alumni and friends in Denver, served on the committee for both her 5- and 10-year reunions, and attended various local college fairs as an alumni admissions ambassador rep. Christine says she feels strongly about giving both her time and treasure to St. Mike’s. She regularly supports both scholarships and the Swimming and Diving program.
Christine earned a master’s in social work from University of Denver in 2015, with a focus on youth development and program management. Earlier this year, she completed a Specialized Graduate Certificate in Learning and Development from University of Denver. She is the Associate Director of the Center for Professional Development at University of Denver. In her role she designs and supports non-credit, continuing education programming for adult learners.
In her limited spare time she likes to hike, travel, and work on her house. Christine and Erick were married on campus in 2017, and last year they welcomed their son, Connor, who is a fun and rambunctious toddler and the light of their lives. Which also means she has even less spare time now.
She goes above and beyond in everything she does, and that is why the Saint Michael’s College Alumni Association is honored to name Christine Gallager a 2021 Alumna of the Year.
