Alumni Profile

Ashley Whittemore

Since graduating in 2012, I have been working in higher education, specifically in Development and Alumni Relations. In my current role at Brandeis University, I manage nine alumni class reunion committees. Throughout the year, I arrange all logistics for reunion weekend and recruit, train and motivate 100+ volunteers.

Saint Mike’s was integral in helping me find this career; I was first exposed to higher education development when I was asked to serve as Co-Chair of the Senior Class Gift Committee.

In my Sociology and Anthropology courses, I was taught how to view the world from multiple perspectives, question my assumptions about American society and critically examine economic and social inequalities. These courses fostered my desire to work in the nonprofit sector.

In my favorite Sociology course – Work, Education and Vocation Capstone – we had in-depth class discussions about what we saw in our futures. For the first time in my life, I was encouraged to think critically about my career and how I wanted it to align with my passions. Working in higher education development has been a wonderful first step in my career; it has solidified my desire to work directly with volunteers at a nonprofit organization.
