Alumni Profile

Chris Bernier '04

Director of Marketing and Development for Special Olympics Vermont

After graduation, I went to work with a successful SMC alumnus in the investment world, Don Dion '76. I moved back to Vermont in 2007 to work for Tubbs Snow Shoes in Stowe and was responsible for their partnership with Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. I helped run several events and raised a quarter-million dollars.

I am the Director of Marketing and Development for Special Olympics Vermont, I'm also doing some special short-term work with Special Olympics North America for our international 2013 World Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. I'll be going to Korea with them and telling the story back here in the U.S., interviewing athletes, sending stories back to national media, updating Web sites and using social media

I was a business major and with an economics minor and I just finished my MBA.

I spend half my time fundraising for Special Olympics Vermont and the other half doing communications and brand marketing alignment, making sure the decisions and look and appearance of what we do matches our mission and core values. We look at people with intellectual disabilities on a holistic level.

At Saint Michael's, people look at the bigger picture. That's become a major piece of my DNA -- making sure that when I make professional decisions, I look at the big picture.

I studied abroad in Ireland and traveled extensively through Europe, which puts me at ease doing this international project for Special Olympics now.

The best part about the St. Mike's location is snow! I liked Burlington so much that I live here now with my wife, who I met at Saint Mike's. Burlington has a fun, quirky vibe to it and is a really nice place to live.

I'd tell new St. Mike's students to find something you're passionate about, that makes you feel good about what you're doing, whether it's helping people or understanding investments really well. I'm just a huge quality-of-life preacher. If you’re going to spend a lot of time doing something, make sure it's meaningful and worthy of your time.
