I am the project director on a $70,000 grant that's used to support undergraduate research at Saint Michael's. The grant is funded by the NASA-National Space Grant and Fellowship Program.

Life Off Campus:

I grew up in New York City enjoying museums, plays, and operas, but happily traded it in for the natural beauty of Vermont. I also enjoy photography, cross-country skiing, hiking and travel.

Zsu Kadas, Lloyd Simons and Barbara O’Donovan of the Saint Michael’s mathematics/statistics/engineering faculty accompanied five engineering seniors completing the Saint Michael’s College-University of Vermont 3+2 Program on Friday, April 26 as the students presented their Senior Capstone Projects at the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences Engineering Design Night. These year-long projects involve teams of students working on applications proposed by local businesses, public services, or university research groups. At the lively poster session held in the Silver Maple Ballroom at the Dudley Davis Center on the University of Vermont’s campus, teams of students presented their work to an appreciative audience that crowded around the posters and displays, including Lloyd, Barbara and Zsu.

Zsu Kadas, professor of mathematics, gave a presentation entitled “A Short Course in Population Dynamics” at the Spring Meeting of the Northeast Section of the Mathematical Association of America held June 3-4, 2016, at the University of New England in Biddeford, ME. Greta Pangborn, professor of computer science, also attended the meeting along with four Saint Michael’s undergraduates, Anna Cook, Jessica Greene, Brenna Smith, and David Perry, who are engaged in summer research on Graph Theory and Self-Assembly of DNA. Zsu also gave a talk entitled “Population Models and the Logistic Equation: the Importance of Being Discrete” in the Applied Mathematics session at the XXIII Hudson River Undergraduate Mathematics Conference held on April 2, 2016 at Saint Michael’s College.
