Many colleges offer similar courses, programs and facilities but none can offer Vermont. We are minutes from the best skiing, hiking, paddling and climbing in the East, a short ride from Montreal (cultural mecca) and surrounded by a unique Northern New England Culture. Did I mention Burlington? Can you say "College Town?"
What do you like most about teaching/working at Saint Michael's College?
I really enjoy the collaborative environment at Saint Michael's, but most important are the students.
What do you like about Saint Michael's students?
The majority of Saint Michael's students that I work with are individuals who want to make their mark on the institution and the world.
What is your favorite class to teach, and why?
Wilderness First Responder because of the intensive nature of the program: 10 days, 8 hours a day. I also enjoy Inland Sea Kayak Guide Training because it pushes students physically and mentally.
Todd Johnstone-Wright ’96/M’11, director of adventure sport for the College, completed his British Canoeing/United Kingdom Coaching Certificate Level 4 Award in Performance Paddlesport Coaching. This is a two-year post-graduate certificate. Todd is only one of three North Americans and 29 internationally, to complete the process. He is also the only one to hold the Level 4, in addition to, a British Canoeing Level 5 Award and American Canoe Association Level 5 Instructor Trainer Educator Award. Todd says he is continuing on beyond the certificate, and will be completing a second master’s degree at the University of Stirling, Scotland (MSc. in Performance Coaching/Anticipated completion date July 18).
