St. Mike’s student wins Miss Vermont USA title

Bethany Garrow ’21 is crowned Miss Vermont USA 2018 in Stowe on Sunday.
Saint Michael’s College student Bethany Garrow, a sophomore business major from Rutland Town, VT, was crowned Miss Vermont USA 2019 on Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center in Stowe.
The daughter of G.J. and Jennifer Garrow, Bethany won the title after engaging in a personal interview with a qualified selection committee and in swimwear, evening gown, and on-stage question phases of competition. Nine other contestants vied for the title, with Bridget Stahl of Brattleboro placing 1st runner-up and Gabriella Farago of Bethel placing 2nd runner-up along with receiving the Miss Photogenic Award. The Miss Congeniality Award, voted on by fellow contestants, was awarded to Ashley Cormier of Winooski.
Garrow will compete in 2019 in the Miss USA national competition, broadcast live on Fox, with the date and competition location to be determined.
During her reign as Miss Vermont USA 2019, the Saint Michael’s student will be advocating for her personal platform regarding the importance of mental health in teenagers and adolescents and how dance can benefit mental wellness. She will strive to implement mental health classes (K-12) into curriculum in schools across Vermont and the country.
The Miss Vermont USA and Miss Vermont Teen USA competition was directed and produced by state director, Glenn Brown, of GDB Theatre & Pageant Productions, who shared the information for this story in a press release.
Two previous Saint Michael’s students have competed and won pageant titles as Miss Vermont though through a different organization — Miss America: Those alumni who were Miss America pageant winners were Ashley Wheeler Ruddy ’08 and Caroline Bright ’12.
