Saint Michael’s College announces new members of Board of Trustees

Saint Michael’s College is pleased to announce that five alumni – all leaders in their respective fields – have joined the College’s Board of Trustees over the past year. 

New additions to the Board include biotech executive and entrepreneur Pamela Carroll ’85 of Boston, Massachusetts; consultant and retired transportation software executive Marie Colbert ’89 of Scituate, Massachusetts; M&T Bank senior vice president and communications leader Patrick Fitzgibbons ’89 of Montclair, New Jersey; and Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development Secretary Lindsay Hill Kurrle ’93 of Middlesex, Vermont, who all joined in October 2025. Retired CEO of GameStop George Sherman, Jr. ’83 of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, joined the Board in October 2024.  

Pamela Carroll ’85 

Pamela Carroll ’85

Pamela Carroll, Ph.D., is a biotech entrepreneur with a track record of driving scientific and business innovation across pharmaceutical research and development. As a leading scientist, Carroll has advanced multiple oncology programs into clinical trials. She is widely recognized for pioneering the integration of emerging technology platforms, including artificial intelligence, to accelerate the discovery and development of novel medicines. Throughout her career, Carroll has demonstrated a unique ability to navigate complex scientific landscapes while forging impactful business opportunities, positioning companies for sustained innovation and market leadership.  

Carroll has held a number of leadership positions in both business and academic worlds, including at Isomorphic Labs, Roivant, Johnson & Johnson, Roche Pharmaceuticals, the Dana Farber Cancer Center at Harvard Medical School, and Merck Research Labs.  She obtained her Bachelor of Science in biology from Saint Michael’s College in 1985, then completed a Doctor of Philosophy in cell and developmental biology at Stony Brook University, as well as a Postdoctoral Fellowship in genetics at Stanford University.   

Marie Colbert ’89 

Marie Colbert ’89

Marie Colbert ’89 earned her degree in Business Administration from Saint Michael’s College and has more than 35 years of experience in the logistics and supply chain sector, with a focus on software solutions. She is especially proud of her tenure as President and CEO of REZ-1 (now Blume Global), where she helped build and lead a successful software and services company for more than 25 years. She currently provides her expertise as a consultant to companies and individuals looking to optimize technology strategies, navigate the transportation software landscape, and scale Software-as-a-Service offerings. 

Throughout her career, Colbert has valued the skills cultivated through a liberal arts education, including critical thinking, communication, and engagement. She credits her own experience at Saint Michael’s with fostering confidence, resilience, and the ability to make values-driven decisions. She saw similar growth in her son, a 2024 graduate of Saint Michael’s College, during his time as a student and since. Colbert and her husband, Vincent, and their children, Dan (SMC ’24) and Joe, reside in Scituate, MA. 

Patrick Fitzgibbons ’89 

Patrick Fitzgibbons ’89

Patrick Fitzgibbons is a Senior Vice President and Senior Communications Manager at M&T Bank in New York City, focusing largely on the bank’s Wilmington Trust’s wealth and institutional trust management businesses. Before joining the bank, Fitzgibbons spent 10 years working with PR and Media relations clients on a myriad of financial and corporate issues and crises. Fitzgibbons switched to communications after almost two decades in the news business as both a reporter and an editor. Included in that experience was almost a decade serving at Reuters News as the editor-in-charge of an award-winning team of 20-25 reporters covering all facets of Corporate America, including investment banking and exchanges, insurance and markets, consumer and retail, manufacturing, automotive, and corporate governance. In 1992-1993, he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in investigative journalism. 

Fitzgibbons has been involved with Saint Michael’s College since graduating with a degree in Political Science & Government and a minor in Fine Arts. Before joining the Board of Trustees in 2025, Fitzgibbons completed a two-year term as President of the College’s Alumni Board of Directors. Along with his professional endeavors, Fitzgibbons has also given back to his community, including through SCARC in New Jersey – which provides career, legal, and community services to individuals with special needs. He lives in Montclair, NJ. 

Lindsay Hill Kurrle ’93 

Lindsay Hill Kurrle ’93

Lindsay Kurrle serves as Secretary of the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development, a position she was appointed to by Governor Phil Scott in 2019. She previously served as Commissioner of the Department of Labor, having first been appointed to the Scott administration in 2017. In her current role, she oversees the Departments of Economic Development, Housing and Community Development, and Tourism and Marketing, leading statewide efforts to strengthen Vermont’s economy and communities. Regularly called upon to lead complex statewide initiatives, Kurrle has guided responses to significant challenges, including public health crises, flood recovery, and Vermont’s housing shortage. 

Before entering public service, Kurrle spent 15 years as a business owner and began her career as an auditor with the international accounting firm KPMG. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Saint Michael’s College. Kurrle lives in Middlesex, Vermont, with her husband and three children. 

George Sherman ’83 

George Sherman ’83

After graduating with a Business Administration degree from Saint Michael’s College in 1983, George Sherman served nearly seven years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force before beginning a distinguished career in retail leadership. He held key roles at Target, followed by senior leadership positions at The Home Depot and Best Buy. He then served as President, and later Interim CEO of Advance Auto Parts, and later as CEO of Victra, a leading Verizon Wireless retailer. In March 2019, Sherman was appointed CEO of GameStop, where he guided the company through a period of significant change until his retirement in 2021.  

Sherman’s commitment to service extends beyond his professional achievements. Since 2017, he has served on the board of directors for Building Homes for Heroes, an organization that provides mortgage-free homes to injured veterans. He has also contributed his leadership to nonprofits such as KaBOOM!, an organization committed to building safe play spaces within walking distance of every child in America. In addition to his Saint Michael’s College undergraduate degree, George holds a graduate degree from Central Michigan University and remains a generous lifetime supporter of Saint Michael’s College. He was recently inducted into the Society of Mont-Saint-Michel in recognition of his enduring commitment to the College and its students.
