Dana Welch has made the most of her time at Saint Michael’s College—both in and out of the classroom. As a double major in Accounting and Psychology with a minor in Business Administration, Dana has embraced every opportunity to learn, lead, and connect. Whether she’s competing on the volleyball court, supporting her peers through Hope Happens Here, or tutoring fellow students, her experience reflects a deep commitment to growth, balance, and community. As she gets ready to graduate, Dana looks back on the moments that made her college journey so meaningful.

What’s a memory from Saint Mike’s that really stands out to you?

“One of my favorite memories at Saint Mike’s was the solar eclipse,” Dana says. “It wasn’t just about the eclipse; it was the way the entire campus came together to witness something that for many is once in a lifetime! Everyone paused their day, gathered outside, and shared the moment. That sense of unity and excitement really stuck with me—and plus, how many people can say they witnessed a total solar eclipse on their college campus?”

What makes the Saint Michael’s community special to you?

“The Saint Michael’s community is genuinely supportive,” Dana says. “That sense of belonging makes all the difference. Whether it’s in the classroom or on the court, people here want to see you succeed. As a student-athlete, I’ve felt especially supported by coaches, teammates, and faculty who advocate for our growth both academically and personally. It’s a place where you’re encouraged to be your best self in every aspect.”

Was there a class that had a big impact on you?

“Personal Finance had the biggest impact on me,” Dana shares. “It taught me real-life skills like how to buy a car, what different retirement plans are, and so much more that I know will stick with me. As an accounting major, we often look into a company’s finances, but this class helped me learn how to manage my own. It’s also given me several resources I can turn to as I start making major financial decisions in the near future.”

What have you found most valuable about studying business at Saint Mike’s?

“The balance between practical knowledge and ethical decision-making,” she says. “The focus on doing well and doing good really prepares us to lead with purpose and make thoughtful, positive contributions in any workplace.”

How has Saint Michael’s liberal arts foundation shaped your perspective?

“It’s helped me become a well-rounded professional,” Dana explains. “I can apply the practical skills from Business Administration and Accounting, while also drawing from humanities courses to think critically, understand others, and communicate effectively. I’ve developed a broader perspective that goes beyond just career preparation—I’m driven to make a meaningful impact wherever I go.”

Who has supported you along the way?

“My professors and advisors have been key to my success,” Dana says. “They’ve kept me on track, offered guidance, and were always available to answer questions or talk through challenges. Their continued support has helped me stay confident and focused on my goals.”

What advice would you give to future Saint Michael’s students?

“Take a wide variety of classes—you never know what might spark your interest,” she says. “Taking different classes for fun and out of interest has enriched my college experience and given me the opportunity to declare two unrelated majors and a minor! So, my advice is to keep an open mind—it can really shape your whole college experience.”

How would you sum up your experience at Saint Michael’s?

“Saint Michael’s is a place where community and purpose come together to help you grow in every way,” Dana says without hesitation.
