David G. Quinn, Jr. ’73
David G. Quinn, Jr., Northfield, MA, died March 13, 2025.
Born in Montague, MA, David attended Pioneer Valley Regional School, graduating in 1969. He took great pride in their championship football team and maintained friendships with many of his teammates for the rest of his life.
David earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Saint Michael’s, followed by a degree in funeral science from New England Institute in 1974.
He began working for William C. Walker, Jr. as a truck driver, and also drove for A.R. Sandri. He then worked as a funeral director and EMT for Foley Funeral Home/DiLuzio Ambulance Service in Keene, NH, before returning home to join his father in the family businesses, Kidder Funeral Home and Kidder & Company, in 1978. His ability to help families through difficult times will be remembered as one of his greatest gifts.
Following in his father’s footsteps, David joined the Northfield Fire Department in 1970 and served as Assistant Chief from 1994 until his retirement in January 2024. During his 54 years with the department, you could count on him being at the griddle flipping pancakes for Fire Department pancake breakfasts and marching with the department in parades.
David was an active member of the Northfield Kiwanis club for many years and served on the Conservation Commission for the Town of Northfield. He was a member of the Parish Council at St. Patrick’s Church for many years.
He was always happiest when his family was all gathered, particularly during trips to Lake Winnipesaukee in the summer. His impact on his grandchildren and their friends could be seen by how many frequently gathered at his house for Friday pizza nights.
David enjoyed flying with his father, boating, snowmobiling, and traveling, but above all, time with his family. He spent countless hours helping at his son’s sugar house where he loved his late winter evenings boiling with his son and grandsons. He coached Little League for many years and loved to share stories and impart wisdom to his grandchildren. He was thrilled when his son decided to join him in the family business, and they worked side by side for 25 years.
David is survived by his wife of 50 years, Paula, a son, a daughter, a sister and extended family.
