John J. Latimer ’70
John J. Latimer, Mishawaka, IN, died November 2, 2023. He served on the Saint Michael’s Board of Trustees from 1996 to 2000, was on the Alumni Board of Directors from 1991 to 1998, was affiliated with the Class Agent Program from 1986 to 1999 and was named Alumnus of the Year in 1990.
John’s lifelong commitment to community service began while serving as an altar boy at St. Luke’s Church and earning the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts in Schenectady, NY. At Saint Michael’s, where he majored in business administration, John was a member of the men’s choir, wrote for the Michaelman and was in the student Senate, Crown and Sword and intramurals. He served in the Air Force after participating in Air Force ROTC in college. John later studied at the National Trust School at Northwestern University and did studies at the American College all relating to his finance career.
He began his career in banking and financial services at the Schenectady Trust Company in Schenectady, NY, going on to work at Vermont National Bank in Burlington, VT. He also served on Winooski’s School Board and began Boy Scout Troop 58 during that time.
John and his wife then lived in Manchester, NH, for 33 years as he continued his finance career, including as a vice president and trust officer for Charter Trust Company and as an officer for Amoskeag National Bank and Trust Co. in Manchester. Other positions included time with Fleet Investment Services in Manchester and as financial consultant with Massachusetts Mutual Financial Services in Bedford, NH.
In addition to serving on countless boards of directors, John was an active member of the YMCA, Rotary Club, and Saint Catherine’s Church, where he was a lector and Eucharistic Minister. When his daughter began playing soccer, he became a state-licensed referee.
While living in Mishawaka, IN, John was a member of the Michiana Men’s Choir and enjoyed exercising with his wife and Silver Sneakers friends. John embodied the values of honor, patriotism, and family derived from his parents, faith, and scouting.
John is survived by his wife, Patricia, a son, a daughter, a brother, two sisters and extended family.
