Lt. Col John Schlegel, USAF (retired), San Antonio, TX, died November 8, 2023.

He was born in Troy, NY. Jack played varsity basketball at Saint Michael’s for two years and was a student commander in AFROTC his senior year. Immediately following his Saint Michael’s graduation, he entered the Air Force to begin many years of service that later took him to Florida State University, where he earned his master’s degree.

His assorted Air Force postings included chief of personnel in the Foreign Technology Division at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, early in his career, and later at bases including Ramstein, Germany and Panama.

In 1979, Jack and his family moved from Panama to San Antonio, where they joined St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. Jack was very active in the CYO program, St. Vincent de Paul, and the Men’s Club. In the late 1990s he was chair of the Business & Applied Science Department at Palo Alto College in San Antonio, and he also worked part-time for Webster College in Human Resources. He retired from the Air Force in 1984.

Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pamela; a son, two daughters, a sister and extended family.
