Susan Jenkins, Cincinnati, OH, died August 5, 2023. Susan was a professor at Saint Michael’s in the Education Department until she retired in 2011. She was born in Darwen, Lancashire, England, and received her master’s in English at University of Leeds. She and her husband moved in 1974 to the United States, where they raised two daughters. She received her PhD at Penn State, where she became a professor before moving to Cincinnati. She and her husband moved to Burlington, VT in 1999 and joined the Saint Michael’s faculty until her 2011 retirement. In 2007 she worked as project director of Project CREATE (Curriculum Reform for the Education of All Teachers of ELLs). The project was funded by a U.S. Education Department grant and the No Child Left Behind Act, specifically the English Language Acquisition National Professional Development Program, for devising and implementing an innovative education curriculum to train all Saint Michael’s education students seeking state licensure. Susan enjoyed reading, walking around Lake Champlain with her husband and staying active. Her husband, Robert, died in December 2022. Susan is survived by a son, a daughter, a brother and extended family.
