Saint Michael’s chefs win cooking competition

March 30, 2017

The chefs from Saint Michael’s College are winners for the second year in a row. Saint Michael’s, represented by Jeff Brogan and Karen Taylor, won the third annual Vermont First Localvore Cooking Challenge on Wednesday, March, 29, topping eight other Vermont colleges.

The competition, sponsored by Sodexo, took place in Alliot Hall at Saint Michael’s and saw the host school take home first prize with a “Classic TV dinner, featuring Vermont-grown beef tenderloin, sweet winter squash, and a popcorn shooter using Karen’s Artisan Popcorn and Sugarman’s maple syrup.”

The eight other Vermont schools, Castleton University, Champlain College, Johnson State College, Lyndon State College, the University of Vermont, Vermont Technical College, Southern Vermont College and Norwich University, along with Saint Michaels’s, presented a dish that incorporated local ingredients. A panel of four judges voted on the best and that was combined with a student vote to determine the winner.
