Te deumProfessor Nathaniel G. Lew of the Saint Michael’s fine arts/music faculty recently shared this interesting lineup of public musical events on the Saint Michael’s College campus for the spring 2019 semester.

All events listed below will be in the McCarthy Arts Center Recital Hall unless otherwise noted.

Chapel of St Michael the Archangel
Green Mountain Mahler Festival: Te Deum settings by Dvorak and Bruckner

Choral singers and orchestral players from around Vermont gather, along with soloists Victoria Drew, Erin Grainger, Skip Potter and Neil Wacek, for performances of grand late-Romantic settings of the Te Deum by Antonin Dvorak and Anton Bruckner. Dr. Nathaniel G. Lew of Saint Michael’s College and Dr. Sherrill Blodget of Castleton University direct. Freewill donation to benefit AgeWell Vermont.

Stellaria Trio

Violinist Letitia Quante, cellist John Dunlop, and pianist Claire Black present piano trios of Joseph Haydn, Johannes Brahms, and Jennifer Higdon. Suggested donation $20, $5 limited means. Free admission with Saint Michael’s ID.

Brianna Lambert-Jenkins & Conor Macias Senior Recital

Joint recital by graduating Saint Michael’s music majors Brianna Lambert-Jenkins and Conor Macias, both students of Brian McCarthy, featuring solo classical music and jazz for tenor and baritone saxophone, saxophone duets, and the premiere of a composition for instrumental sextet by Macias. Free admission.

U.S. Air Force Heritage Wind Quintet

Heritage Winds is the woodwind quintet component of the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band. As professional Airman-musicians, the members of Heritage Winds are dedicated to using the power of music to honor our veterans, inspire patriotism, communicate the Air Force story, and recruit those who are interested in serving our nation. Solo vocal recital by graduating Saint Michael’s music major John Jacob, a student of Amber DeLaurentis Cleary, with popular songs, show tunes, and classical works in a program representing important moments Jacob’s life. Free admission.

Vermont Symphonic Winds

The Vermont Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Lisa Jablow, offers a concert featuring a wide variety of music from both the classic and current wind orchestra literature. $10 adults, $5 seniors and students. Free admission for kids or with SMC id.

The Saint Michael’s College Chorale, under the direction of Erin Grainger, Trial by juryperforms a semi-staged version of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan’s classic one-act operetta Trial by Jury. Free admission.

Saint Michael’s College String Orchestra

The Saint Michael’s College String Orchestra, under the direction of Fran Pepperman Taylor, performs a program including works of Edvard Grieg, Gioacchino Rossini, and others. Free admission.

Saint Michael’s music students studying voice and instruments show their stuff in a joint recital. Free admission.

Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble Concert

The Saint Michael’s College Wind Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra, both under the direction of Brian McCarthy, offer their end-of-the-year concert. Free admission.

Terry Riley’s In CSheet music

Saint Michael’s music students and faculty gather for the annual performance of Terry Riley’s classic minimalist participatory work In C. Players of all melody instruments from on campus and the local community are invited to bring their instruments and join in. Free admission.

South Burlington Community Chorus and Mad River Chorale: Carmina Burana
