Internships & Jobs

Landing a job or internship starts with knowing what you’re into and what you bring to the table.  Getting experience—over the summer or during the school year—can help you figure out your path and stand out to employers later on.

The Career Center has your back.  From first year to senior year, we’re here to help you find opportunities and explore careers that match your goals—whether it’s an internship, part-time job, or your first full-time job after graduation.  Connect with a career coach to define your goals and create a clear path toward your professional success.

Job Searching That Works

There’s no single right way to land a job in a changing and competitive job market.  That’s why using multiple strategies—and starting early—gives you the best shot.  A strong search can take a few months, so don’t wait.  Connect with a career coach to create a game plan that works for your major, your interests, and your timeline.

Find job opportunities in Handshake in the “Resources” section, through your connections (faculty, family, friends, employers, etc.), LinkedIn (especially the SMC Alumni group), and Indeed.  Meet with a career coach to tailor a job search strategy to your specific goals.

Show Off What You’ve Done

Once you know where you’re headed and who’s hiring, it’s time to market yourself.  That means crafting solid, tailored resumes and cover letters that highlight your strengths.  No need to figure it out alone—we’re here to help you make it polished, professional, and ready to impress.

Internships

At Saint Michael’s College, we believe that learning goes beyond the classroom.  Internships are a key part of our liberal arts education, giving you the chance to apply what you’re learning in real-world settings.  Intern for academic credit or intern for experience; either will give you the opportunity to explore potential careers, build your resume, and develop valuable skills that transfer to any field.

International Opportunities

Saint Michael’s offers multiple international internship opportunities through our Institute for Global Engagement. You can intern in France or travel to South Korea with our Freeman Foundation offerings. The Institute supports a variety of international internships, giving students an immersive international experience within another culture while participating in professional workplace settings. Learn more about the international internship opportunities.

There are several approaches to take as you search for the perfect internship.  Keep in mind that the process is highly competitive, just like a professional job search.  You will need to prepare a resume, cover letter, references/recommendations, and in some cases provide your college transcript to apply.  In addition, you will most likely be asked to interview for the position before you are hired.  Career coaches are here for you every step of the way!

Micro-internships

Saint Michael’s students and recent graduates from all majors can execute short-term, paid, typically-remote, professional projects that allow you to build and demonstrate skills while exploring potential career paths with Micro-Internships, facilitated via the Parker Dewey platform.
