Alfred D. St. Hilaire, St. Albans, VT, died July 5, 2024.

A native Vermonter, Fred led a fulfilling life with various roles and accomplishments. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Burlington in 1956 and went on to serve in the Navy with honor and integrity. He was a proud veteran, embodying the values of loyalty and service to his country.

His dedication to farming was a source of great pride, including his sheep farm in Georgia, VT. Fred also showcased his skills as a mechanic while owning and operating St. Hilaire Mobil in Winooski during the 1970s.

As a jack of all trades, his talents included working as a machinist, times study analyst, and contractor, among others. Fred’s commitment to hard work and excellence was evident in all that he pursued.

He was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning and preserving the harvest with his wife. He even made a variety of wines from plants grown on his property, and had a passion for woodworking, creating many intricate carvings throughout the years. Many also will remember Fred for his rich singing voice and sharing of songs learned during his upbringing. He also was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Fred was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Betty Jane, in 2022. He is survived by two sons, two daughters and extended family.
