John “Jack” Byrne, 90, of Lake George passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 2, 2026 at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born in Proctor, Vermont on August 21, 1935. He is predeceased by his wife, Elaine F. Byrne; his brother, William Barrie Byrne, and his parents William Leonard Byrne and Lucille Byrne.
Jack earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont. He was a High School English Teacher in the Lake George and Hudson Falls School Districts. He also worked summers as a lifeguard at the Million Dollar Beach and as an officer with the Lake George Park Commission Marine Patrol. Jack was an avid golfer, enjoying golf at the Sagamore with his family, especially his granddaughter, Makayla, and his son-in-law Kevin. He liked gardening, birdwatching and traveling to the Maine coast with his wife Elaine.
Survivors include his children, Linda (Kevin) Hart, Michael (Cathy) Byrne, Barrie (Kimberly) Byrne and John (Victoria) Byrne. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Makayla (Brandon) Winchell, Macaulay Byrne, Brianna Byrne, Riley Byrne, Tara Byrne, and Liam Byrne-Smith and great grandchild Eliza Winchell.
He had a special bond with his grandchildren, spending holidays together, attending musical recitals and other school events. He was extremely proud of their recent college and artistic achievements.
