Richard H. Eagan Jr.
1949 – 2026
Agawam
Richard H. Eagan Jr. passed away peacefully after a short illness, at his residence on April 6,2026. He was an Agawam native, born in Springfield on January 12,1949 to the late Richard and Eileen (O’Neil) Eagan. He graduated from Agawam High School class of 1966 and went on to earn his advanced degree at St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont. During his four years there he was a member of the golf team and because of his accomplishments he was named an outstanding college athlete in 1969. He remained an avid golfer for more than fifty years. During the 1980’s he served as Vice Chair of the Shaker Farms Country Club Board of Directors. On September 2, 1981, he established a new course record at Shaker Farms where he shot sixty-seven, which at that time was the lowest 18-hole score recorded on that course. Richard also scored three holes in one and a rare double eagle. Of all these achievements he was proud but humble. He chose a career in the insurance industry and was a valued member of the Arbella Insurance Group for forty-five years until his retirement, serving as Team Manager for most of his career.
