Allison Sherman Gardner ’05, M’10
We are proud to present Allison Sherman Gardner class of 2005 and masters 2010 graduate with the Father Michael Cronogue Award for Service, in recognition of her extraordinary commitment to Saint Michael’s College and for exemplifying the spirit and values that Father Mike so lovingly lived: unwavering faith, infectious joy, quiet compassion, and a deep devotion to building authentic community.
Throughout her 13 years as associate director of alumni and parent relations, Allison was more than a staff member—she was a connector, a mentor, a cheerleader, and a true ambassador of the Saint Michael’s mission. Her work touched thousands of alumni, families, and friends of the college. With boundless energy and heartfelt care, she was at the center of some of St. Mike’s most treasured traditions: reunion weekends that brought generations together; magical children’s Christmas parties that lit up Alliot with laughter; alumni and family weekends that welcomed hundreds back to campus; and corporate cup races that united staff, faculty, and alumni in spirited camaraderie. These events—along with countless smaller gatherings and behind-the-scenes efforts—weren’t just well-organized; they were joyful, personal, and meaningful because of the warmth Allison brought to every interaction.
Her devotion to service was never confined to her job description. Allison mentored countless students, helped new alumni feel at home in unfamiliar cities, and led service trips across the country that reflected the college’s Edmundite values in action. Her fingerprints are on the lived experience of Saint Michael’s—and her impact endures in the lasting relationships she fostered between alumni and their alma mater.
Allison’s Saint Michael’s journey began as a student, where her leadership and love of community quickly became apparent. She was a member of the Sigma Beta Delta business honor society, served as a student government association senator, participated in the leap retreat program, and served as the advertising manager for the Defender. She was also active in campus ministry and the track club, always seeking ways to contribute meaningfully to the life of the college. Her involvement wasn’t just about building her résumé—it was a reflection of her deep love for the people and purpose of Saint Michael’s.
Her relationship with the college grew even more personal after graduation. She and her husband, Richard, were married in the college chapel, with Father Mike himself presiding. Years later, Father Mike also baptized their son, Theo—a moment that underscored just how intertwined Allison’s life and the spirit of Saint Michael’s had become.
Even after transitioning from her full-time professional role at SMC, Allison’s commitment to St. Mike’s has never wavered. She remains deeply involved—so much so that she’s still technically on the college’s payroll, so we can tap into her regularly as a 2nd set of hands at various events. Beyond campus, she has led her 15th and 20th reunion committees, organized Burlington-area alumni events, and remains a dedicated supporter of the annual fund—continuing to give back in ways both meaningful and lasting.
Allison’s enduring connection to the college is rooted not only in gratitude, but in a deep sense of responsibility to give back and carry forward the values that shaped her. Her humility, thoughtfulness, and tireless commitment make her a role model for others and a true reflection of what it means to live a life in service to others.
In honoring Allison with the Father Michael Cronogue Award for Service, we recognize a lifetime of giving—not only of time and talent, but of heart and soul. Her service has enriched the Saint Michael’s community in countless ways, and in her, we see the very best of what this college stands for. Through Allison, Father Mike’s legacy continues to shine: a life of purpose, generosity, and love lived fully and faithfully in community with others.
