Camillo “CJ” Spirito ’90, M’09, P’20

Camillo “CJ” Spirito, undergraduate class of 1990 and a 2009 master’s graduate, is honored as alumnus of the year in recognition of his extraordinary dedication as an educator, mentor, and leader—someone whose life and work embody the core values also shared by the college – of community, compassion, and purpose-driven service.

Currently serving as head of school at Rock Point School in Burlington, VT, CJ has devoted more than two decades to nurturing and guiding young people on their paths to growth and success. His journey in education has been marked by a steady rise through roles of increasing responsibility—from dorm staff and dean of students to director of the dorm, culminating in his current leadership as the school’s top administrator. Throughout, CJ’s work has been fueled by a deep empathy, boundless passion, and a commitment to building inclusive, supportive communities where every student can thrive.

CJ’s connection to Saint Michael’s began as a student, where he fully embraced the college’s vibrant campus life and mission. He was actively involved in MOVE, the Outing Club, Peace & Justice, and art clubs, while also running cross country, studying abroad, and contributing to the school newspaper. His leadership and academic excellence were recognized with the prestigious Roger F. Kelliher award, highlighting his commitment to embodying the college’s values both in and out of the classroom.

As an alumnus, CJ’s dedication to St. Mike’s remains unwavering. He has generously shared his time and expertise by participating in events such as the career symposium and has been honored with an induction into the athletics hall of fame, recognizing his contributions to the Saint Michael’s sports legacy. His steadfast loyalty is also evident in his 19 consecutive years of giving back to the college financially, a testament to his belief in supporting future generations of Purple Knights.

CJ’s connection to Saint Michael’s is also deeply personal. He is a proud parent of Miles Spirito ’20 and husband to Kathy Butts ’89, a valued staff member and leader at the college’s Bergeron Counseling Center. Together, their family exemplifies a multi-generational commitment to the SMC community and its enduring mission.

In celebrating CJ as alumnus of the year, we honor a lifetime of service, leadership, and love for the college. His work continues to inspire both young people and fellow alumni alike, demonstrating the powerful impact one individual can have when guided by purpose, compassion, and faith. Join us in congratulating CJ Spirito—a true Purple Knight, through and through.
