Francesca D’Elia ’20

Francesca D'Elia '20Francesca D’Elia, class of 2020 is the recipient of the Young Alumna of the Year award in recognition of her bold entrepreneurial spirit, creative vision, and unwavering commitment to community. From the earliest days of her Saint Michael’s journey, Francesca stood out as a leader who blends innovation with purpose—qualities that continue to define her work and inspire others.

A business administration major with a minor in economics, as a student Francesca was inducted into the Sigma Beta Delta honor society and consistently distinguished herself through academic excellence and service. She has remained closely connected to the college since graduation, participating in alumni initiatives like the 2024 Making Mavericks panel series, where she shared her entrepreneurial journey with students and fellow graduates. She also serves on her reunion committee, helping to bring classmates together and strengthen alumni ties.

As a first-year student, Francesca launched homegrown jewelry from the confines of her residence hall, stringing beads between classes and quickly gaining a following around campus. Affectionately known as “the jewelry girl,” she transformed a dorm-room idea into a thriving, socially conscious business that now operates out of Cambridge, Vermont and has earned national and international attention—including a feature in British Vogue. What began as a passion project has become a platform for advocacy and empowerment, exemplifying the power of mission-driven entrepreneurship.

Homegrown Jewelry proudly supports nonprofit causes like the One Love Foundation, integrating social justice into its business model and amplifying awareness around issues of healthy relationships and community care. Francesca’s work stands as a testament to what’s possible when creativity meets conscience—a core value of the Saint Michael’s experience.

Francesca is also part of a proud St. Mike’s legacy family—her parents and three siblings are fellow alumni—further deepening her lifelong connection to the college. Her story is one of courage, creativity, and conviction, and she continues to embody the ideals of a Saint Michael’s education: using one’s talents in service of others, making meaningful change, and doing good while doing well.

In honoring Francesca with the Young Alumna of the Year award, we celebrate not only her early accomplishments, but also the incredible promise of what lies ahead. She is a shining example of what it means to lead with purpose—and an inspiration to the next generation of changemakers.
