Current job title and employer and briefly describe what it is you do: I am a Volunteer Coordinator at the Community Action Council of Howard County.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: After graduating from Saint Michael’s College, I moved to Elkridge, MD, just outside of Washington D.C. and Baltimore. I currently work at a local nonprofit that focuses on serving those experiencing poverty in our community. As the Volunteer Coordinator I manage over 4,000 volunteers each year who help us make our mission possible.

When I am not at work I enjoy traveling, cooking, hiking and running. I am a member of the Howard County Striders, a local running club and also and serve on its board.

Tell us about your Saint Michael’s College experience: I loved my time at Saint Michael’s College! It is where I made some of my closest friends and was able to grow. I appreciated the small class sizes and the liberal arts education which made me a well rounded student. My study abroad, MOVE Extended Service and internship experiences allowed me to break out of my comfort zone and learn what really drives me.

What advice would you give to female students: Be brave and try new things. Take classes outside your major, participate in the events, find a mentor. I also highly suggested getting off campus – my study abroad and internship opportunities pushed me to meet new people and take my education outside the classroom.

What are some strategies that can help women achieve a more prominent role in their organizations: Build relationships with those in your company and outside. Continue to learn and develop new skills.

What keeps you motivated and driven on a daily basis: Being able to work for an organization that has a mission I believe in with colleagues who are also passionate about helping others.

What woman most inspires you and why: My mentor Susannah C. Through many years of hard-work, dedication and constant learning, Susannah grew her career and is a leader at her workplace. Susannah brings the same level of dedication to her passions outside of work and participates on a number of boards in the community.
