About Title IX
What is Title IX?
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law protecting individuals from discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. The law states:
“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
Title IX, along with two additional pieces of federal legislation (the Clery Act and the Violence Against Women Act) ensure that you are protected against:
- Sexual Harassment
- Sexual Assault
- Dating & Domestic Violence
- Stalking
- Sexual Exploitation
- Retaliation

As Title IX Coordinator, I serve in a neutral role and support all members of the Saint Michael’s College community. If you are reading this, I realize that we may have never met, and that it can be intimidating to talk with someone you do not know. Please know that I have specialized training and experience in responding to disclosures of sexual harassment and misconduct and I know that your concerns are of a very sensitive nature. I am here as a resource and am happy to meet with any individual (both students and employees) to discuss any of the following:

- supportive measures
- our official campus policies
- reporting options
- the reporting and adjudication process
- informal options grounded in restorative practices
